Course Information & Teaching Methods;
The course is suitable for people of all abilities and aims to cover the basic techniques to make bobbin lace.
Beginners will learn how to prepare patterns and work the basic stitches to make Torchon lace. Those with more experience will build on existing skills learning to make more complex pieces or try different types of
lace; Bedfordshire Lace, Buckinghamshire Point Ground, Braid Lace, and Bruges Lace to name a few.
Everyone works at their own speed in a friendly and open environment. The tutor is on hand to give advice on choosing projects and teach new techniques. Learning methods include instruction, explanation and
demonstration, mainly on a one to one basis with some group discussion. The amount of work undertaken in between the sessions is up to the student.
Equipment;
The materials needed to make bobbin lace are available from specialist suppliers, (the tutor can advise on this) however a pillow, bobbins, and thread can be provided to make a start.
The basic equipment will cost from £20 - £25, additional threads and materials can be purchased as required.
