CheckoutA mixed ability class where students will be able to pinch, coil, slab, use the wheel or throw pots depending on what is appropriate for their individual chosen project and ability. There will be an additional charge for materials.
This is a mixed-ability course, taught in a relaxed and supportive environment, where students will be able to explore various processes and develop ideas at a pace which suits them.
Activities will include researching and developing ideas using a sketchbook, producing test tiles, and completing various projects. Students will learn how to design, plan, make and glaze their work in the appropriate materials. The tutor will support in the design and making of ceramic pieces.
It is a general ceramics course designed to show students how to work in the studio and develop skills fundamental to the making process. Learning the techniques of pinching, coiling, slabbing, throwing and decoration with clay and glazes, students will touch on all aspects of clay work and will be taught skills to enhance their practical applications.
Projects for advanced learners can be discussed individually with the tutor.
Teaching methods will include hand-outs, explanation, demonstration and discussion in a group and on a one-to-one basis, where appropriate.
The course is taught in a well-equipped studio.
Fired clay is not included in the price of this course. Payment will be charged by weight and type of clay used and number of items fired, approx £1.50 per lb - charges are displayed in the classroom and are liable to change depending on the suppliers cost. This will be clarified by examples of fired pots of various sizes shown at commencement of the course. All fired work must be paid for and collected on completion. Unfired clay can be recycled.
For your first session you will need to bring a sketchbook & pencil, apron and an old tea towel that will need to be washed ready for use each week. You may bring your own named tools if preferred.
